Military Flavour for this years show ball
One of the leading events of Norfolk’s social calendar will have a strong military flavour this year when it helps to raise funds for a new charity established in the county.
The annual Show Ball, which is a highlight of the summer taking place the week before the Royal Norfolk Show, will feature military bands and precision organisation for every aspect of the evening.
The high profile event will be the first public occasion for fund-raising for ‘Veterans Norfolk’ which is a new umbrella charity encompassing all three sections of the armed forces in this county.
The charity has been established to help co-ordinate and signpost support for veterans of all ages in Norfolk and will have a central point of contact and one website to unite the many organisations which can help at a time of great need.
President of Veterans Norfolk, General the Lord Dannatt said: “We found while there were many charities and organisations doing great work, there was sometimes not enough communication between them and this could make it difficult and time-consuming for people to find the right support. Whatever the age of a veteran, it is vitally important we direct them to the right area quickly. This new charity, bringing everyone together, will be able to make a real difference to the 10,000 veterans or families of veterans we currently have in Norfolk. I am sure we can count on people in this county to come out and support what will be a wonderful and memorable evening.
“We are delighted to announce today that Ardeshir Naghshineh’s Targetfollow Group will be the headline sponsor for the ball. In the coming weeks we will be announcing several other sponsors, who have already expressed a wish to be involved in a number of different aspects of this prestigious event,” Lord Dannatt added.
The ball will have the theme of ‘1914 – 2014 – The need is as great now as it was then’, highlighting the anniversary year of the First World War.
It will be held once again in the marquees adjoining the President’s Pavilion at the Showground on June 20, starting with a drinks reception at 7pm. Guests will enjoy the first taste of military music when the band of 3rd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment will be Beating Retreat at 7.15pm and they will also play through dinner. There will be an ipad auction, table raffle and tombola with dancing to a band and disco until 1am.
Fee Sharples, who is co-ordinating the evening said:
“With everything we have planned with our committee and the input from the armed services in Norfolk we know it will be a truly memorable occasion. We expect a strong demand for tickets and would encourage people to book their tables early.”
Tickets will cost £75 each and tables can be booked for eight, 10 or 12 places by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 01603 757658. Full payment will be required to reserve tickets.
